SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC STATUS FOR ELEVEN MONTHS OF 2013

As estimated, this year’s winter-rice cultivated area in the North reached 1,185,200 ha, increased by 0.1% from the figures in 2012. However, as the productivity reached 4,790 kg/ha, decreased by 190 kg/ha, the yield reached 5.7 million tons only, reduced by nearly 180,000 tons.

As of this period, the North provinces other crops-cultivated area was 123,900 ha of maize, equaling 80.9%, 38,600 ha of sweet potato, equaling 91.5%, 8,000 ha of peanut, grew by 5.3%, 45,300 ha of soybean, equaling 91% and 49,300 ha of vegetables, up to 3.8% from the figures in 2012’ same period.

According to the husbandry survey, the country’s flock of buffalos as of 01/10/2013 had 2.6 million, reduced by 2.5% from the figures in 2012’ same period. Buffalo live-weight for slaughter reached 85,500 tons, decreased by 3.4%. The flock of oxen for slaughter had 5.2 million, fell by 0.6%. The output of live-weight beef reached 283,600 tons, declined by 3.5%. There were 186,100 cows grew by 11.4%; the output of milk reached 455,600 tons, by19.4%. The country had 26.3 million pigs, decreased by 0.9% from the figures in the identical period last year, of which there were 3.9 million sows, a drop of 2%. However, the output of live-weight pork still reached 3.3 million tons, grew by 2.1%. The country had 317 million fowls, raised by 2.9%, of which there were 236.4 million chickens, an increase of 5.6%. The output of poultry meat reached 762,300 tons, up to 4.1%; 7,422.6 million eggs, a rise of 1.7%.

Forestry

The country’s planted concentrated area in eleven months reached 195,700 hectares rose 8.5% from the same period in 2012; 180.3 million separated trees, up to 1.9%; wood production 4.8 million m3, increased by 6.1%; firewood production 27.9 million m3 by 1.7%.

Damaged area was 1,479 ha, decreased by 53.3% from the figures in 2012’ same period, of which burnt area was 878 ha, reduced by 48% and destroyed area was 602 ha, by 45.4%.

Fishery


Generally, estimated fishing production in eleven months reached 5,485,000 tons, rose 2.5% from 2012’s same period, of which there were 2,923,200 tons of farmed products, increased by 2.3% and 2,561,800 ton of caught products, by 2.8%.

Industry

As estimated, Industrial Production Indexes (IPI) in November rose 5.7 percent from the last year’ same period. Of which the mining and quarrying decreased by 4.2%; the manufacturing increased by 8.4%; power generation and supply by 8.2%; water supply and waste treatment by 9.8%.

IPI in eleven months during this year had a grow of 5.6% against the same period last year, of which the mining and quarrying decreased by 0.5%; the manufacturing increased by 7.1%; power generation and supply by 8.6%; water supply and waste treatment by 9.2%. To the eleven months’ general growth, the manufacturing contributed 5 points percent; power generation and supply 0.6 point percent; water supply and waste treatment 0.1 point percentage; the mining and quarrying only decreased by 0.1 point percentage.

Consumption index for the manufacturing in ten months of 2013 rose 10.4 percent from the last year’ same period. As of 01/11/2013, the stock indexes of the whole manufacturing raised by 9.4% from the identical period in 2012.

Employment indexes (EI) for industrial enterprises as of 01/11/2013 rose 4.5 percent from the last year’ same period. Of which there was not much change in the state sector; the non-state sector grew by 1.9% and the FDI sector by 7.8%. As of this above period, EI of the mining and quarrying decreased by 1.4%; the manufacturing increased by 5%; power generation and supply by 3,6%; water supply and waste treatment by 2.7%.

Investment

Generally, eleven months’ realized investment capital from the state budget reached 183.5 trillion dong, equaling 90.6% of the yearly plan and declined 0.8 percent from the same period in 2012. Of which, capital under central management reached 37.2 trillion dong, equaling 92.8% reduced by 17.9%; capital under local management attained 146.3 trillion dong, equaling 90% and rose 4.8 percent respectively.

FDI from the beginning of the year to 20/11/2013 attracted 1175 newly licensed projects with registered capital of US$ 13.8 billion, grew by 0.1% in the number of projects, and by 73.3% in capital compared to the figures in 2012’ same period. And 446 times of license-granted projects from previous years were provided with additional capital during the year with US$ 7 billion. Therefore, the total registered capital of both newly and additionally financed projects reached US$ 20.8 billion, increased by 54.2% from the figures in the same period last year.

Estimated realized FDI in eleven months of 2013 reached US$ 10.6 billion, rose 5.5 percent from the figures in the same period last year.

Government revenues and expenditures

Total revenues from the beginning of the year to 15/11/2013 reached an estimated amount of 657.6 trillion dong, equaling 80.6% of the annual estimate. Of which, domestic revenues reached 432.6 trillion dong, equaling 79.3%; collecting from crude oil  reached 97 trillion dong, equaling 97.9%, export-import balance 123.1 trillion dong, equaling 73.9%. Of the home revenues, 130.7 trillion dong was from state enterprises, equaling 75%; 94.4 trillion dong from FDI enterprises (excluding crude oil), equaling 88%; 92.2 trillion dong from non-state industrial, commercial and service taxes, equaling 76.6%; 41.6 trillion dong from individual income tax, equaling 75.9%; 10 trillion dong tax on environment protection, equaling 70.4% and 8.3 trillion dong other fees, equaling 79.6% of the yearly estimate.

From the beginning of the year to 15/11/2013, total government expenditures reached an estimate of 803.1 trillion dong, equaling 82.1% of the yearly estimate. Of which spending for investment development achieved 146.2 trillion dong, equaling 83.5% (capital construction only 141.6 trillion dong, equaling 83.3%); economic and social development, national defense and security (including salary reform) 567.4 trillion dong, equaling 84.1%; paying debts and aids 89.5 trillion dong, equaling 85.3% of the annual estimate.

Trade, price and tourism

Total retailed sales of consumer goods and services

As estimated, eleven months’ total retail sales of consumer goods and services reached 2,386.2 trillion dong, rose 12.6 percent from the last year’s identical period, if the factor of inflation were excluded, the growth rate would be 5.6%. Of which, the trade business gained 1,832.6 trillion dong, accounted for 76.8% of the total and increased by 12.2%; hotel and restaurant 287.9 trillion dong, 12.1% and by 15.3%; services 243.4 trillion dong, 10.2% and by 13.4%; tourist 22.2 trillion dong, 0.9% and by 1.8% respectively.

Exports-Imports

Eleven months’ export turnovers reached an estimation of US$ 121 billion, grew by 16.2% from the figures of the same period last year. Of which the domestic economic sector achieved US$ 39.9 billion, increased by 3.6%; the FDI sector (including crude oil) US$ 81.2 billion, showing a high growth of 23.5%.

Estimated import turnovers in eleven months reached US$ 121.1 billion, rose 16.5 percent from the last year’ same period, of which the domestic economic sector reached US$ 52.2 billion, up to 6%; the FDI sector US$ 68.9 billion grew by 26%.

Generally, the trade deficits in eleven months were US$ 96 million, equaled 0.1% of the total export turnovers. Of which the home economic sector had trade deficits of US$ 12.3 billion; the FDI sector had the trade surplus of US$ 12.2 billion.

Consumer price indexes (CPI)

November’s CPI rose 0.34 percent from October, of which catering and related services had a growth rate of 0.62% (grain food 1.29%; foodstuff 0.56%); housing and construction material increased by 0.41%; garments, hats, footgear by 0.35%. Other groups having lower growth rates or decreased CPIs included: drinks and tobacco  grew by 0.28%; family appliances by 0.24%; both education and culture, entertainment & tourist by 0.1%; medicines and health services by 0.07%; transport decreased by 0.34%; postal and communicational services by 0.02%.

November’s CPI rose 5.5 percent from 12/2012 and grew by 5.78% against the same period last year. Eleven months’ average CPI rose 6.65% percent compared to that in 2012’ similar period.

Although rains and typhoons partly influenced on this month’s CPI, which caused a rise in food prices. However, on the other side, some contributing effects kept prices from a sharp increase like: the decrease in petrol prices during the month, low interest rate, etc. Thus, CPI in November of this year had the lowest growth rate since five years[1].

November’s gold price index decreased by 1.04% from October; It slowed down 21.76 percent from 12/2012 and fell by 21.4% compared to the last year’ same period. US$ price index in 11/2013 reduced by 0.1% from October, grew by 1.04% against 12/2012 and by 1.07% against 2012’ identical period.

Carriage of passengers and cargos

Eleven months’ passenger carriage reached an estimate of 2,696.3 million arrivals, increased by 6% and 112.7 billion passengers-kilometers by 5.6% from the same period in 2012. Of which central transport reached 30.9 million arrivals, grew by 7.2% and 27.4 billion passengers-kilometers by 10.1%; local transport reached 2,665.3 million arrivals, grew by 5.9% and 85.4 billion passengers-kilometers by 4.2%. Transport by road reached an estimate of 2,536.1 million arrivals, increased by 6.2% and 81.4 billion passengers-kilometers by 4.1% from the last year’ same period. Respectively, air: 15.5 million arrivals by 11.4% and 24.5 billion passengers-kilometers by 11.3%; rail: 11.2 million arrivals by 2.4% and 4.1 billion passengers-kilometers by 3.4%; sea:  4.4 million arrivals by 4.6% and 224.2 million passengers-kilometers by 4.1%.

Eleven months’ cargo carriage reached an estimate of 920.1 million tons, rose 4.7 percent and 188.2 billion tons-kilometers, slowed down 0.9 percent from the last year’ same period. Of which the domestic transport gained 892.1 million tons, grew by 5.1% and 82.8 billion tons-kilometers by 4.9%; overseas transport reached 27.9 million tons, decreased by 5.9% and 105.4 billion tons-kilometers by 5%. Local transport gained 871.1 million tons, grew by 5.4% and 82.9 billion tons-kilometers by 5.9% from the identical period in 2012. Transport by road achieved 696.2 million tons, increased by 5.3% and 42.3 billion tons-kilometers by 5.7%. Respectively, river: 164.4 million tons by 6.6% and 35.7 billion tons-kilometers by 5.3%; sea:  53.4 million tons, reduced by 5.9% and 106.4 billion tons-kilometers by 4.9%; rail: 5.9 million tons, decreased by 6.7% and 3.4 billion tons-kilometers by 6.3%.

International visitors to Viet Nam

Estimated international visitors to Viet Nam in eleven months during this year reached 6,850,000 arrivals, rose 10.2 percent from the last year’ same period. Of which visitors coming for tourist purposes were 4,198,200 arrivals, increased by 12.1%; business purposes, 1,146,100 arrivals by 8.3%; and visiting relatives, 1,139,400 arrivals by 8.7%. Visitors coming by air were 5,413,700 arrivals, grew by 7% compared with the figures in the same period last year; sea: 183,500 arrivals, reduced by 27.2%; road: 1,252,700 arrivals, raised by 38.7%.

Social issues

Farmer’s food shortage

Generally, the country in eleven months had 417,100 times of households suffered from food shortage, reduced by 3.4% from the figures in the last year’ same period, which equaled 1,752,000 hunger persons, decreased by 4.5%. To overcome the problem, all administrative levels and sectors since the beginning with the year have provided difficult families with 44,500 tons of food and 24 billion dong, only in November, 1,300 tons of foods were supplied.

Epidemic diseases and food poisoning

Generally, the country in eleven months had 60,600 cases of hemorrhagic fever (38 died); 749 cases of virus encephalitis (17 died); 39 cases of meningococcal meningitis (3 died); 580 cases of typhoid; 69,900 cases of hand, foot, mouth disease (19 died) and 127 cases of food poisoning infecting 4,400 persons, of which 20 died.

More 2,100 HIV-infected cases were found during the month, bringing the number of HIV infected living persons over the country as of 17/11/2013 to 215,300, of which 63,500 persons turned to AIDS. The country’s deaths by AIDS as of above period were 67,200 persons.

Fire and explosion

Generally, the country in eleven months had 2,167 serious cases of fire and explosion, killing 120 persons and injuring 264 others. Estimated damage valued about 1.7 trillion dong.

Traffic accidents          

Generally, the country in eleven months had 10,159 cases of the traffic accidents, killing 8,626 persons and injuring 6,312 others. Cases of crashing during eleven months were 17,006, which slightly hurt 20,992 persons. In comparison to the same period last year, cases of the traffic accidents increased by 4.3%, collided cases decreased by 8.2%, deaths raised by 0.7%, injured persons reduced by 10.2% and lightly wounded persons by 8%. On average, each day for eleven months during the year had 30 cases of the traffic accidents and 51 crashed cases, killing 26 persons, injuring 19 persons and sparingly hurting 63 others.
Damage by natural calamity

Generally, natural calamity in eleven months during this year made 301 persons died and lost and 976 persons injured; over 6,000 houses collapsed and swept away; nearly 670,000 houses flooded and damaged; over 250,000 hectares of rice and vegetables flooded and damaged. Total estimated losses in eleven months were about 28 trillion dong.
